Grupo Fuertes and the University of Murcia select the students who will do work experience and their Final Degree/Masters Project in ELPOZO ALIMENTACIÓN thanks to the holding company’s Food Safety and Sustainability University Chair

In the event they also presented the Talent and Ideas action, started by the Chair, to identify young researchers with projects on meat protein based food along with the website to share their activities

Grupo Fuertes and the University of Murcia have selected the students who are to carry out their summer work experience and their Final Degree or Maters Project in the company ELPOZO ALIMENTACIÓN. These actions are included in the annual programme of the holding company’s Food Safety and Sustainability Chair.

For this reason they held an award ceremony accrediting the chosen students, who were accompanied by their tutors, the director of the chair, Gaspar Ros, the Coordinator of the Vice-Rectorate, María José Portillo Navarro and the Vice-chancellor of Employment, Entrepreneurship and Society, Alicia Rubio. The group visited the food company’s facilities in their headquarters in Alhama de Murcia and were received by the president of the company, Tomás Fuertes, who emphasized the importance of research in the food sector.

During the event the calls for Talent and Ideas were made public, included in the annual programme of the Chair which is aimed at identifying young researchers with projects on meat protein based food and who work in multidisciplinary teams. In addition, the website https://um.es/web/catedra-elpozo/ was presented which will serve as a platform to present the initiatives which are being rolled out and so that those interested can enrol in them easily.

The objectives of the Food Safety and Sustainability Chair of Grupo Fuertes are innovation, training and dissemination in the field of veterinary and food science.  Its activities include awarding grants to students from the Faculty of Veterinary Science, carrying out university internships and promoting research contracts.

This institution is in line with the sustainable development objectives of the United Nations and is centred on getting the concept of «Only one health » into the food production chain that is, spreading the message that human health and animal health are interdependent and are linked to the ecosystems in which they coexist.

Grupo Fuertes has created two university chairs at the University of Murcia, this one linked to the Faculty of Veterinary Science and another linked to the Faculty of Economy and Business to promote innovation and internationalisation and apply the results of knowledge obtained to business activity. These actions are an example of the close relationship which this company has with the educational institution when it comes to R+D+I.
