Bodegas Luzón is launching its two new ‘Origen Luzón’ wines on the market as a tribute to its fascinating history and with the aim of making them a benchmark. Its oenologist, Vicente Micó, has chosen the Garnacha Tintorera and Syrah grape varieties, thus expanding the plant diversity and environmental richness of the winery’s surroundings, which belong to the Jumilla Protected Designation of Origin (PDO).

With these new wines, the winery recalls its past: a project of José Molina, who for several years was a commander of the royal forces on the Philippine island of Luzón, the origin of the winery’s name, and who, on his return to Jumilla, began the project of producing wine. The winery was bequeathed to his daughter, being linked to the female branch of the lineage from the very beginning. In 2005, the Fuertes Family took over and gave it a boost in modernity thanks to significant investments.

‘Origen de Luzón’ is composed of a 100% Garnacha Tintorera grape of remarkable character, spending 8 months in oak barrels to create a deep cherry red colour and high intensity, with an expressive, intense and complex bouquet, and aromas reminiscent of black fruits (blackberries, cherries), liquorice and menthol. On the palette it is rounded and concentrated, with ripe and structured tannins. Very good volume with a long and persistent finish. This is joined by a 100% Syrah grape, of great aromatic intensity and concentration, spending 6 months in oak barrels to create a deep ruby red colour, where the aromas of blackberry, blueberries, rose petals and violets open up to reveal herbaceous, spicy notes and subtle hints of oak and cocoa. On the palette it is fresh, concentrated and very mineral with fine tannins and a perfect balance.

Two expressive and lively wines that join the great family of wines of Bodegas Luzón, in which the constant common denominator is to obtain the maximum expression of the varieties grown.
