Cefusa creates improvement groups to reduce water consumption on its farms

The plan presented at the Dehesa del Rey (Granada) installation expects to reduce water volume by 12.9 percent

Cefusa, an agricultural company from the Fuertes Group, is establishing improvement groups within its workforce. They will introduce measures which optimize water use in the processes of the installations, to improve the use of this resource and to decrease its consumption.

The first of these groups has been set up at the Dehesa del Rey farm, located in the Granadan town of Castilléjar. It has presented an action plan to reduce water consumption by 12.9 percent in its installations.

The effort to make the best use of this resource is focused on optimizing water consumption by the pigs, on achieving a more efficient use of the resource in cleaning and disinfection tasks, and on improving refrigeration management inside the industrial units.

The proposed plan expects to reduce the water volume for cleaning jobs by 29 percent and reduce water consumption for refrigeration processes by 10 percent. Furthermore, it calls for improved management and monitoring of the livestock hydration equipment to avoid potential water loss.

Training a multi-disciplinary team has facilitated the study of the current situation and the analysis of improved alternatives to save water. This is one of the measures Cefusa is promoting as part of its circular economy strategy to make the most of natural resources. The optimum use of water is a priority line of action in its environmental management to achieve maximum efficiency for this resource and reduce its water footprint.
